The Marburg and Districts Residents’ Association (MDRA) was established in 1974 to provide a forum for local issues. Thirty-four years later, after ups and downs that are typical of most community groups, it is now a vibrant organization. Through partnerships with local businesses, other community groups, individuals and government entities, it provides a voice for local concerns as well as driving many local initiatives. In 2006 and 2007 the MDRA received awards from the Ipswich City Council for the most active community group in Division 10.
Highlights of recent MDRA initiatives include:
Band in the Park – free monthly concerts under the trees and bandstand in the park showcasing local talent.

The Black Snake Creek Festival – featuring a parade, art competition, music, children’s activities, good food and market stalls.

Annual Christmas Party and Lights Competition.

The Marburg Community Plan – a process facilitated by the MDRA by which the preferred future for Marburg was identified in a comprehensive plan that was presented to the Ipswich City Council.

Restoring ANZAC services to Marburg – ANZAC Day commemorations have been held in 1957, 1990 and 2008.

Environmental projects – through the work of dedicated volunteers, various projects are in progress including the revegetation and redevelopment of the town section of Black Snake Creek. Stage One involves the area around the Dr. Sirois Bridge near the town centre. Other plantings are near the wall of the detention basin beyond the showground towards Rosewood.

Website – through the work of a small group of volunteers and funding by the ICC and the MDRA, this site was developed to meet a community need for information and promotion.

Support in hardship and success – Funds have been raised to assist families facing life-threatening illness and financial hardship as well as supporting young members of the community in sporting activities.
