The first Marburg Show was held in 1912 although earlier and very successful agricultural shows had been held in the district. In 1887 over 3000 people attended a show organised by the Marburg, Kirchheim (Haigslea), Glamorgan Vale and back Plains (Minden) Shows Societies. The Queensland Times reported the attendance at that show of a number of important people of the time including J.C. Heussler, the Queensland Government’s agent in Europe who had been responsible for the migration of many Germans to the area.
The Marburg Show has been at its current site since that first show in 1912 although its land holding and buildings have increased since then. The show is held on the first weekend in May annually. It is one of the most venerable and influential community organizations in Marburg as it manages a significant resource and property within the town.
The Marburg Pacing Association and the Marburg Mustangs Cricket Club jointly use the facility. In addition to the show, the Show Society holds the famous Saturday night Marburg Dances. A new Rock n’ Roll dance night has begun on Friday nights and a market is being held regularly in the grounds.
